WHAT IT DOES

The Tuna Fuzz is as simple as a fuzz pedal gets. One knob — the Stinker — controls output volume. There is no gain knob, no tone knob, no bias control. Gain is entirely managed by your guitar’s volume knob, which means the Tuna Fuzz rewards players who actually use their volume control. Roll back to 3 or 4 and you get a mildly ragged, gnarly low-gain sound. Dime it and you get full-on thick, square-waved fuzz with enormous output — unity gain hits before you’re halfway through the Stinker’s travel.

Beetronics recommends running the Tuna Fuzz without a buffer in front of it. It is true bypass, so when it’s off it’s completely out of the signal path.

THE SOUND

The Tuna Fuzz is scuzzy, blown-out, and square-waved — a very fuzz fuzz. There are no hints of clean overdrive or smooth distortion in this circuit. It takes you straight to early Black Keys territory, vintage garage rock, proto-punk, and early heavy rock. The three-transistor circuit delivers a nicely balanced fuzz tone with plenty of output — more than enough to push a clean amp into breakup or stack with another drive pedal.

The volume knob cleanup is real but not Fuzz Face-level glassy. The sweet spot for most players is guitar volume wide open, Stinker knob set to taste. At full tilt it is loud, thick, and gnarly — exactly what a one-knob fuzz should be.

THE STORY BEHIND THE CAN

Beetronics was founded by Brazilian luthier and pedal builder Filipe Pampuri. PRACTICAL NOTES

Mounting the Tuna Fuzz to a pedalboard requires some thought. Standard velcro works on the plastic base but the friction-fit lid can separate if the board takes hard knocks. A zip-tie or two is recommended for gigging use. No internal battery — 9V DC only, draws 10mA, low current draw with no issue sharing a power supply.
